Handy House Artisan Fair, 202 Hix Bridge Rd., Westport, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Sat., 9/22 (Rain date Sep 23). FREE By the Westport Historical Society, showcasing 30 local craftspeople who specialize in skills and traditional crafts commonly practiced in the 18th and 19th century. This year’s fair also features a vintage wares yard sale: an opportunity to pick up unusual antiques, metalware, jewelry and textiles. Traditional craftsmanship is still very much alive in Westport. The Artisan Fair offers a rare opportunity to meet these craftspeople, learn about their skilled handiwork and human powered technologies through hands-on demonstrations. This year’s fair features highly skilled woodworkers, a blacksmith, Native American crafts, indigo dyeing, and stone wall building. Some artisans will have their work for sale, so it will also be a chance to get a jumpstart on holiday shopping!
The event offers several food options including delicious johnnycakes by Grays Gristmill and ice cream by the Acushnet Creamery.
Supported in part by a grant from the Westport Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
