The Belonging Committee and the Fairhaven Rotary Club have partnered together for April Food Day, Sat., 4/1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fairhaven Town Hall, 40 Center St., to bring awareness, resources and help to all those impacted by food insecurity. This event is a great opportunity for our community to come together and collect donated canned goods and nonperishables for local pantries.
Based on the latest census data there are over a thousand residents and families living in poverty in Fairhaven. With inflation since the last census, and Pandemic Relief SNAP benefits ending in March of this year, we know the need has grown.
The April Food Day event is not just a donation drive. We have many resources available for those who need assistance. The Council on Aging Director, Martha Reed, will be present to help people of ANY age sign up for SNAP benefits. She will also have resource material for seniors. The Family Resource Center from Fairhaven Public Schools will be providing guidance on additional resources for families. Veterans Agent Brad Fish will also be there to answer any questions, along with PACE and the Commonwealth Care Alliance.
We will also have some fun activities and special guests as well. Bring the whole family!
