Annual Acushnet Car Cruise breaks record

September 3, 2025 by Staff Writer

By Beth David, Editor

The annual Acushnet Car Cruise had at least 180 antique and classic cars converge upon the center of town on 8/28/25 for some car talk, oldies music, dancing, and food.

The annual event is sponsored by the town and takes over the Parting Ways area around Town Hall, with Main Street closed down while hundreds of people check out the old rides on the street, in the parking lots of the Town Hall, St. Xavier Church, and Parting Ways.

Kevin Gaspar said he had handed out 180 magnets for the count.

“It’s a record setting year, I can tell you that,” said Mr. Gaspar.

The food vendors were happy, too, saying they all had robust sales for the duration.

Meanwhile, people danced to the oldies spun by DJ Dave Blast.

Tim and Sharon Correia had two cars they were showing: a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere (his), and a 1967 Plymouth Fury (hers). However, he had “bought” the Belevedere for her… supposedly, said Ms. Correia.

But, she said, he kept driving it, so she got the Fury.

Mr. Correia said he “kind of brought it back from the deda,” meaning the Belvedere. “When you do that, you kind of have a connection.”

Everything is new on it and he’ll be working on the inside, too. He’s keeping the black paint, though, for that “Rat Rod” look.

“I call it the creep wagon,” said Ms. Correia.

Salt Philla had his bright red 1955 Thunderbird on display. He said he owned it since he was 14 years old when his father gave it to him. He started driving it around when he got his license at 17.

“It was just a used car back then,” he said.

He only went through it once, he said, to get it in the shape it is in now.

Kevin Mello had his 1955 Chevrolet 210 Wagon, also known as a “shorty,” because it only has two doors. He named it “Woodstock,” and fashioned a plate to look like the original hardware. It has a 355 cu enging with a 671 blower that sticks out of the hood.

“It’s an interesting piece,” said Mr. Mello. “I’m the caretaker.”
