Kenneth Gonsalves saw a man struggling to pay for one can of cat food. He bought the man 10 cans, which made him feel good, but he couldn’t stop thinking about “hungry animals and the families that love them but are struggline to feed them,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
So he decided to do something about it. He and his wife Jill turned their seasonal farm stand at Curly’s Farm, 95 Wing Road, Acushnet, into a pet food pantry.
The response has been “amazing,” he said in a Facebook post, with pledges coming in from all over.
The stand now has food, treats, and other necessities for dogs, cats, bunnies, birds and more. In addition to food, there are leashes, collars, dog and cat toys, cat litter, and more.
So, if you are having a tough time caring for your furbabies, swing by and take advantage of the kindness of your neighbors.
Mr. Gonsalves posted in All Things Acushnet that they have received a “steady stream” of donations.
“Your generosity has allowed us to help families struggling through cancer, hip replacements, unemployment, advanced age and numerous other struggles,” he wrote. “This has been an eye opening experience for me personally in many ways. I hope we all can continue to work together to ease the burdens of those less fortunate. Thank you all!”
