On Friday, May 31, 2019 first responders were called shortly after 6 p.m. to Joseph Street for a reported house fire. On arrival the exterior rear of the home was fully involved in fire.
Acushnet Police Officers used fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading. Firefighters extinguished the fire and limited its spread into the home. All occupants safely fled the building and there were no injuries. Fairhaven Fire Department provided a crew and Engine to the scene.
Firefighters removed the family’s cat from the building and were able to revive it on scene, using an oxygen mask designed for pets which is carried on our apparatus. The cat was taken by Acushnet Animal Control Officer Rebekah Tomlinson to a care facility in Rochester.
In an update posted on 6/1, Acushnet FD wrote: “Doug, the rescued cat, is much better this morning. A very big thank you to Pam Robinson from Rochester for all your loving care to Acushnet’s new best buddy.”
