The Acushnet Police Department posted an update on 11/2 announcing that an arrest has been made in the case of vandalism to headstones in October. The APD on its Facebook page said a 16-year-old male was charged. Because he is a juvenile, the PD would not release his name.
On October 3, 18 head stones in the Acushnet Cemetery were reported as being knocked over.
“As a result of the follow up investigation, criminal charges for the damage are being sought against a 16 year [old] juvenile male,” wrote the APD on its Facebook Page. “Those charges include violations of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 272 section 74 (Desecrating a Place of Burial) and Chapter 272 section 73 (Injuring a Gravestone).”
