Nearly 80 motorcycles braved the late November weather for the annual Toys for Tots toy drive and food drive sponsored by the Acushnet Lions Club at the River’s End on Sunday, 11/27. With help from Boy Scout Troop 11 and Pack 51, the festive crowd loaded up trucks with food and toys, and then headed to the Shepherd’s Pantry to unload the goodies. The Adam Taylor Memorial Foundation also dropped off a pickup truck full of toys.
Rivers end owner Marc DeSilva said it was the seventh year they have been hosting the event to help children and families have a good Christmas.
“We’re just trying to help everyone have a nice holiday,” said Tim Cox of Fairhaven.
Steve Sylvia and Robin Sherman got all bundled up and road in for one of the last motorcycle runs of the season.
“To bring toys and have a good tme with good people,” said Mr. Sylvia.
“It’s all for a good cause,” said Ms. Sherman.
The bike total was 78, officially, and cost to join the run was a toy for Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a program of the US Marine Corps. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
