The Acushnet Lions Club held its annual duck race on Sunday, 6/15/25, sending 1,000 rubber ducks into the Acushnet River to race in the current to the finish line.
This year, the race started just across from the River’s End Cafe, giving the ducks a swift current right from the start. Both human spectators and curious live ducks watched as the rubber ducks made their way under the road towards the harbor.
In the water, two Lions Club members kept an eye on the booms that corralled the ducks into the opening.
First duck through the shute was #518 for the win by Joanne Herenko; Karen Costello’s duck came in second; and John Golda got the third spot. Prizes were $1,000, $500, and $200. Members of the public could “adopt” a duck for $10 for a chance to win.
All proceeds benefit Acushnet Lions Club charities. To learn more about their fund-raisers. Call Joe Costa, 774-849-2028, to learn about their fund-raisers and how you can volunteer.
