The town of Acushnet paid tribute to one of their own when it lit up the fire station grounds on Russell Street, Sunday, 12/4.
Logan Varieur made the countdown on the microphone in memory of his little sister, Victoria “Tori” Lynn Varieur, age 3, AKA “Princes Tori,” who was killed in a tragic accident when her father’s car rolled down the driveway last month. It was the first time in the 30+ year tradition that the lighting was dedicated to anyone.
Logan clearly enjoyed himself as he shouted out the numbers.
The Ford Middle School choir led the crowd in song until Santa Claus arrived, courtesy of the Acushnet Fire Department. The Big Guy stayed long enough to take pictures with all who wanted to, clearly delighting some, and sending other youngsters into a veritable tither.
The completely free event included cookies and hot chocolate for all, courtesy of the Acushnet Call Firefighters Association. The department is also collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program until 12/20. The lights will be on nightly until January.
