Acushnet Housing Authority residents show art talent

Tenants of the Acushnet Housing Authority showed off their artistic talents at an art show on Thursday, 12/1/22. The Acushnet HA received an Arts Wellness Grant through the Acushnet Cultural Council to offer activities such as painting and crafting to promote socialization, health, and wellbeing after the COVID pandemic.

Classes were free to tenants, their friends and families members, and were taught by Christina Rizza who presented the art show with Resident Service Coordinator Nancy Ludwig.

The event included refreshments and a slideshow that caught the creative process throughout the program.

“After COVID it was so important for them to get out and have fun,” said Ms. Ludwic. “The exhibit is so important. At first they all said they couldn’t do art, but now they look around and see what they did and can show people.”

“I’ve been painting for years,” said Isobel Sousa, who had a painting in the show. “I like the freedom of painting…I can do what I want.”
