Acushnet Grange #295 presented the Acushnet Elementary School the National Grange Subordinate Community Service award in recognition for haveng been awarded the National ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) Distinguished School Award. The hall was full with students, families, teachers, faculty and Grange members. Presenting the award were Presidents Glen Gibson of Massachusetts State Grange and Joshua Cunha of Acushnet Grange to AES Principal Leah Chesney and Dr. Paula Bailey, Superintendent of Schools. The Grange recognizes the hard work that the community of administrators, teachers and students have done to accomplish this. It also goes beyond the school walls with the involement of the students, parents and the school committee who put the students first and members of the town who support the students throughout the school years on the outside of school projects. When faced with the pandemic the Acushnet schools provided the students with the technology need to exceed and continue to be together by using a hybrid model to allow students to continue to strive for excellance and academic growth in2022.
The student ambassadors from the fourth grade presented 11 reasons that were part of the reason that the school received the ESEA Award. These students are chosen by their teachers to perform certain duties when asked. Each semester a new group of students are chosen. The students were each given a certificate and presented a gift with sees noting that we are ambassadors to the earth and its future.
The Grange gives the community service award annually to an individual from the town who has exemplified some type of service in their community. This year was an opportunity to recognize several individuals at once.
The Grange is open to all family member beginning at the age of 14. Meetings are held first Tuesday at 7pm and doors are open to all who wish to visit and possibly want to be members. Our mission is “To bring people together to build stronger communities by encouraging agriculture and environmental sustainability, community service and fostering future leaders.”
