Acushnet’s Boy Scout Troop 11 has a new Eagle Scout. Landon Medeiros was sworn in at his Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday, 5/24/25.
He built a little free library at the Lake Street fishing area for his Eagle Scout project. Mr. Medeiros started his journey to Eagle Scout when he was eight years old.
He is the 10th Eagle Scout for Troop 11, said Scout Master Joe Cote, and there are two more “in the wings.”
Mr. Medeiros earned 21 merit badges to earn the rank of Eagle.
After being sworn in, Mr. Medeiros presented pins to his parents and special mentors who helped him along the way.
Members of the troop and family members were at the ceremony to witness and participate in the event.
Landon’s dad, Brandon, got choked up as he gave his son a silver eagle 1/2 dollar.
“I’m proud of him,” said the elder Medeiros. “It was a long road.”
Landon said he was not sure he would make it.
“But it was worth it,” he said, adding that he was glad it was over.
He stuck with it because he wanted to graduate from high school with more than a diploma, he said.
Mr. Cote told him that no matter what happens in his life, he will always be an Eagle Scout. It is about honor and obligation.
He has been tested, said Mr. Cote, not that life will be easy, but he has already been tested.
The ceremony also included the color guard presenting colors; the Pledge of Allegiance; the recitation of the Scout Pledge and the Eagle Scout Pledge; remarks by scout leaders and Selectboard member Bob Hinckley.
