An accidental discharge of a firearm at a house on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven left one man with non-life-threatening injuries last weekend. According to police spokesperson, Lt. Kevin Kobza a man in his early 20s accidentally shot himself in the leg, while at 147 Sconticut Neck Road on Saturday, 7/20/19. The 357 Magnum revolver, probably discharged when the man was attempting to place it on his person.
Lt. Kobza stressed it was not a deliberate shooting, but an accident.
Police are not releasing the man’s name, however, because charges have not been filed and the matter is still under investigation, said Lt. Kobza.
Lt. Kobza said the house is not known to police as a problem house “at all.”
“What it boils down to is that it was an accidental discharge and the subject sustained injuries to his leg,” said Lt. Kobza. “The investigation is still active and ongoing.”
He wsould not say if he anticipated charges being filed in the future, but it is a possibilty.
