Whales, dolphins and porpoises, collectively known as cetaceans, have captured the human imagination for centuries. They are depicted in paintings, sculptures, and mosaics. They were a vital part of this region’s economic and cultural history. But, they are far more than a commodity or the central character in what is considered the quintessential American novel.
Join Bob Rocha, Associate Curator of Science and Research at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, as he explains the natural history of cetaceans and the important differences between the two major sub-Orders, and how that relates to the conservation challenges they face. Artifacts are a part of the presentation. So, if you’ve never held a whale tooth or baleen before, this is your opportunity.
Please join us at the Unitarian Memorial Church, 102 Green St., Fairhaven, from 6:30-8 on Mon., 11/2, for the next Natural History of Fairhaven presentation, sponsored by the Millicent Library, UUSF, and Climate Reality South Coast.
