More Women Should Run for office
To my “unofficial” 291 votes for my run at Board of Health: Thank you for your votes! I appreciate that even though you didn’t know much about me or why I was running, you went out on Tuesday and voted.
In 2016, I tried running for Selectboard and now in 2020, a run for a Board of Health seat; although not successful at either my intention has always been the same — with an open heart and no “political” agenda. Of the elected boards/committees in Fairhaven, only two have any women on them. Three on the School Committee, and one newly elected woman on the Housing Authority. Before this election, there were two women on the Planning Board, but not more.
By putting myself out there, I hope to reach that woman sitting at home and watching these board meetings who may consider running in the future, but is afraid to for whatever reason. I hope more women and men get involved in aligning themselves to really read and learn more about the political stance in Fairhaven.
We need to hold our elected officials accountable. It is not all about doing it “my way” and thinking that one person is going to “fix” a board by being voted in.
Our attitudes have to be one of teamwork and leadership and this is my hope for the newly elected officials.
Congratulations to the newly elected officials.
And again THANK YOU to my voters!! (Some who voted for the FIRST time, so we are making a little progress!!)
Pattie Pacella, Fairhaven
