Oh, the pain continues. But if you know anyone who has had this brutal virus, you know it could be worse.
The world struggles to continue, even as half of everything is shut down, so we do have some actual real news in here. We even have some meeting coverage. BPW is still entertaining the masses (see page 14); Acushnet’s PJ Keating got a rude awakening last week (see page 6).
And, we have a few letters to the editor this week (see page 20). I guess people have some time on their hands. Keep ’em coming. I love this stuff.
We have two stories about getting food to seniors who may not be able to get out and buy groceries (see pages 12, 13). We also have a birthday shout-out to West Island’s Terry Pereira, someone you’ve seen in these pages over the years (see page 13).
New Bedford got thousands of masks made by Joseph Abboud Manufacturing (page 7), the maker of fancy men’s suits. So, someday, when this is all over and it’s safe to make jokes about it, people who have Abboud masks can put them with the other family heirlooms, right?
The big COVID news (page 3) is that the governer of Mass. has made face coverings in public mandatory. I know, I know, he’s taking your rights away, he’s some kind of nut, we’re all a bunch of sheeple. Well, this little sheeple is just fine with covering my mouth in public (cover your nose, too).
This is NOT fascism, people, so…just stop it. It is NOT a slippery slope, either. Hey, I’m a feminist activist from way back. I know about slippery slopes. This is common sense. Use your heads and stop screaming. It’s only temporary. Remember the stories we’ve all heard about the Great Depression? Think of that for a minute. Just think. They stood in line for hours to get a hunk of cheese and a canister of soup. We’re being asked to stay home, unless we really don’t want to, then we can just go shopping and say it’s for stuff we NEED (Some police state, huh?). We’re being asked to stay home, relax, collect a check for a few months.
Honestly, just cover your mouth. I don’t want to hear it.
