Woo hoo! We won awards!
Our fearless photog Glenn C. Silva won TWO awards, yup, two, at the annual banquet of the New England Newspaper and Press Association this weekend.
Glenn really goes the extra mile most of the time to get his shot, so it’s really good see him get recognized for his extra efforts. See page 7 for details.
And, if you see him around town, be sure to congratulate him.
Both Acushnet and Fairhaven have police promotions this week. In Acushnet (page 13), they have a new chief of police and a new sergeant. Chief Richmond is quite the comedian, had everyone laughing at the change of command ceremony. I’m sure that sense of humor will come in handy in the new job.
Congratulations to Chief Richmond, and to Sgt. Matton.
Fairhaven also had a police promotion this week (see page 3). Detective Scott Gordon, whom you may remember from the Carter case, was promoted to sergeant at the selectboard meeting.
I’m sure Sgt. Gordon will do the job with the same attention to detail he showed as a detective. Congratulations to him, and his kids seemed to be getting a kick out of it, too. His son pinned him, and I just love the expressions on both their faces.
Our cover story is a fun event. Students at the high school got to showcase their talents in the annual FHS Got Talent show (see page 12 for that). The kids sang their hearts out, and also got creative.
Now…I’m going to make a big plea here, folks. I really need for my faithful readers to supplement the advertising with donations. Lots of papers are going to the “reader supported model,” because advertisers regularly come and go. But readers? They stay.
So, if you enjoy this little weekly miracle, please consider donating. Any amount will do. Info for mailing is below. You can also donate on our website through PayPayl at www.NeighbNews.com
And be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until next week then…see ya,
