The 2020 Season of the New Bedford LGBTQ Winter Film Series starts off with the powerful Rocketman on Sunday, January 26 from 1-4 p.m. at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA. The public is invited for free film screenings and discussions on gender, race, sexuality, and community health.
Rocketman is the story of young Reginald Dwight who changes his name to Elton John and collaborates with singer-songwriter Bernie Taupin to become one of the most iconic figures in pop history. Set to his most beloved songs, it’s the epic musical story of Elton John, his breakthrough years in the 1970s and his fantastical transformation from shy piano prodigy to international superstar.
“2020 is the third Season for the highly successful New Bedford LGBTQ Winter Film Series,” said Dan Everton, Co-Chair, “This year the schedule has been compressed into a shorter season with two movies in February to stay within the winter months when people are looking for something to do on Sunday afternoons.”
The full series includes: Rocketman on January 26; Brother Outsider: the Bayard Rustin Story on February 9; Boy Erased on Feburary 23; and Signature Move on March 8.
All films start at 1:00 p.m. at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford MA. Mark your calendar now so you don’t miss out.
FREE screenings start at 1:00 p.m, followed by a panel discussion. Resource tables from our community partners provide information on local services and a networking opportunity for LGBTQ individuals and allies before and after the film until 4 p.m. This year, all activities will take place inside the Theater.
