Join us for the annual readathon of America’s most iconic novel, Moby-Dick. An experience you don’t want to miss, you’ll relive the famous, action-packed narrative and be transported back in time on the search for the elusive white whale.
In addition to the main event, the Whaling Museum hosts two mini-marathons on January 4: a Portuguese-language reading of Tiago Patricio’s abridged Moby-Dick; and a children’s version by Classic Starts.
The 2020 Moby-Dick Marathon is dedicated to the late David Blanchette, a talented artist, illustrator, author, and long-time volunteer at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
The Marathon reading itself starts on Saturday, 1/4/20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Bourne Building of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740; 508-997-0046. The reading ends at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, 1/5. The marathon is FREE.

5:30 pm – 8:00 pm Moby-Dick Marathon Opening Night Kick off this year’s Moby-Dick Marathon by enjoying a meal well-suited for hungry sailors and a lively presentation by Mary K. Bercaw Edwards, Melville Scholar, titled Herman Melville: Sailor, Writer, Metaphysician, followed by a Q&A.
