A couple of hundred people showed up for Acushnet’s annual lighting and sing-along, that even Santa attended, on Sunday, 12/8/19, at the fire station.
Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher greeted the “happy, spirit filled crowd,” and introduced the Ford Middle School Chorus, which led the crowd in song.
Chief Gallagher let the crowd know that he was in radio contact with the New Bedford Police and the state police keeping track of Santa, who had last been seen in New Bedford.
Chief Gallagher thanked the firefighters and other volunteers who took the time to decorate the grounds outside Fire Station 1, singling out Papa Elf Paul Frysinger, and, Mama Elf Diane Barlow.
Chief Gallagher recruited young Adam to help with the countdown, when the switch was turned to “on” and the lawn lit up.
Everyone then went inside the fire station for hot chocolate, cookies, and a session with Santa. Children also donated toys for the Toys for Tots program.
The lights will be on through the end of the year, and the public is welcome to view them any time.
