Turkey Trot

Thurs., 11/28. Gather 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Start time: 8 a.m. Green Street side of Cushman Park, Fairhaven

Annual Thanksgiving morning 5K race raises money for the Shepherd’s Pantry. First 500 adult registrants receive a T-Shirt. Registration is $20 online for adults before Nov. 26 and $25 for adults Nov. 27–28. Registra­tion for children 12 and under is $10 either online or in person. After race Trot Fest hosted by Rasputin’s Tavern.

Help Decorate Benoit Square

Sat., 11/30, 8 a.m., Benoit Square, opposite 267 Adams St., Fairhaven. Work off that Turkey Dinner and help us decorate for the Holidays!

Please join us in preparing Benoit Square for the holiday season. Many hands make light work!

New Bedford Tree Lightings and Festival of Lights

The following community events will take place in the City of New Bedford this year to celebrate the holiday season:

City of New Bedford Official Christmas Tree Lighting 

Sat., 11/30, 4:30 p.m., Pleasant St. in front of Main Library downtown.

Join Mayor Jon Mitchell, New Bedford City Councilors and the New Bedford community for the annual tree lighting celebration! At 4:30 p.m. Santa will lead a parade up William Street to the Main Library. The parade will feature the award-winning New Bedford High School Whaler Marching Band and the All-City Middle School Marching Band and Color Guard. The countdown celebra­tion will feature holiday songs, greetings from local elected officials and an appearance by Santa Claus! New Bedford Community Services Department will serve compli­mentary hot chocolate. 

Stop by the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. (not free) as New Bedford Festival Theatre pre­sents a star-studded cast, consisting of performers from their 30 years of shows, returning to the Zeiterion stage! Don’t miss this uber talented line up, singing songs from La Cage Aux Folles, Les Miserables, Jekyll and Hyde and much, much more! Tickets start at $30. 

Holiday Shop & Stroll 

Sat., 11/30, noon to 5 p.m., down­town New Bedford. 

dNB’s 2019 Holiday Stroll is happeningthis Saturday! Kick off the holiday season on Small Business Saturday in downtown New Bedford. With Santa at Mare Studios, Firetruck Rides, Carolers, Southcoast Brass Band — and more!

Cove Street Neighborhood Group Tree Lighting

Fri., 12/6, at 6 p.m., Loretta Bourque Park at corner of Ruth Street and Salisbury Street

Festival of Lights Celebration at Clasky Common Park 

Sun., 12/8, at 5 p.m., Clasky Com­mon Park at County & Pope Streets

Event includes sing-along led by students, speechmaking by local politicians, and a visit from Santa.

Enormous display includes thousands of lights, Santa’s work­shop, reindeer, and Santas Around the World display.

Movie Monday: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (not free)

Mon., 12/9, at 7 p.m., Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, 684 Purchase Street. Cost $3.

A screening of the 1989 classic film, where the Griswold family’s Christ­mas plans predictably turn into a hilarious disaster.

28th Annual Holiday House Tour

Sat., 12/14, from 4–8 p.m.; and Sun., 12/15, from 1–5 p.m.; at Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street 

Capture the holiday spirit on the New Bedford Preservation Society’s 27th Annual Holiday House Tour. Visitors will be inspired by the varied architecture and interiors, all beauti­fully decorated for the season. The tour runs Saturday the 14th, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
