The Acushnet Selectboard is one step closer to finding a new Town Administrator. At its meeting on 11/12/19, board members heard from the chairperson of the TA Screening Committee, Leslie Dakin, and consultant Kevin Paicos.
Mr. Dakin stated they had 23 resumes to screen for the position. They weeded it down to 10 candidates, interviewed eight, and they were ready to turn in the final five to the Selectboard.
Mr. Paicos gave an overview of the steps that the Selectboard needs to follow now.
He said the top five candidates were “really excellent people,” and any one of them would be a great fit for the Town of Acushnet and the citizens of Acushnet.
Mr. Paicos explained that after the names of the candidates go public that the Selectboard must discuss everything in public going forward.
The Selectboard decided to meet on Friday, 11/15, at 8 a.m. after they had a chance to review the resumes themselves to then come up with a timetable to set public interviews.
The agenda for that meeting had not been posted by press time.
Mr. Paicos read the names of the five finalists: Ronald San Angelo, who is currently the Town Administrator in Southbridge, MA; Jack Healy, who is semi-retired, and recently finished as interim Town Administrator of Freetown; Julie Hebert, who is currently serving as the town’s interim TA and was the Director of Finance; Mike Mullen Jr., a Rockland Selectboard member; and John Stanbrook, who serves currently as the Town Administrator in Mansfield.
Selectboard member Kevin Gaspar thanked Mr. Dakin and the screening committee for their hard work and efforts in screening and presenting the five candidates.
Board members discussed the procedure they would take to move on to the next step; contemplating how many questions they would each ask and moving quickly to get to the interview process.
The meetings for public interviews will be posted as public meetings.
In other business, the Selectboard and Housing Authority held a joint meeting to name Stephanie von Jess to the Housing Authority Board. The Selectboard also named Ronald Melbourne to the Finance Committee.
The next scheduled Acushnet Selectboard meeting will be Friday, 11/15, at 8:00 a.m. regarding the Town Administrator position; followed by public interviews the week of November 18. The Selectboard’s regularly scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday, 11/26 at 5:00p.m.
