Handy House Artisan Fair and Vintage Market, 202 Hix Bridge Road, Westport, Sat., 9/21, 10 a.m.– 3 p.m. (Rain date 9/22). Free. Visit http://wpthistory.org
Handy House Artisan Fair showcases local craftspeople who specialize in skills and traditional crafts commonly practiced in the 18th and 19th century. This year’s fair also features a vintage wares yard sale, an opportunity to pick up unusual antiques, jewelry and postcards.
This year’s fair features, amongst others, highly skilled woodworkers, a blacksmith, potter, clay hand building and stone wall building. There will also be a chance to learn more about seed saving and heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables and sailors valentines. Some artisans will have their work for sale, so it will also be a chance to get a jumpstart on holiday shopping!
Kids will be entertained by Ruth and Abby, the 1850’s ladies and will be able to participate in a large-scale communal coloring page activity and scavenger hunt.
The event offers several food options including delicious johnnycakes by Grays Gristmill and ice cream and snacks by the Oxford Creamery.
Supported by a grant from the Westport Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust administered by Bank of America.
