Acushnet’s 39th annual 5K saw 181 runners take to the streets and finish the race.
Eric Homes of Wareham MA took top honors in the 2019 5K with a time of 16:22. He led the Flying Elvis team to a second place finish while holding off Will Benoit (2nd in 1648), Ben Davignon (3rd in 17:05), and Jason Eddy (4th in 17:51). Will, Ben and Nicholas Brown running as The Krusty Towers took the top male team honors. Peter Danzel, along with Brian Grant, Jr. of The Flying Elvis were able to hold on to second place. The Acushnet Valley Striders, Brad Sumner, Nick Pilla, and Isaac Laplante held on for third place team honors.
The big story was on the ladies side of the road. Veteran Mary Cass, took the overall women’s title in 20:14. Fourteen seconds separated the top four women. Janny Rodriguez Ramos was second in 20:25, Julie Craig third 20:28. Jen Almeida in 20:28.
Janny, and Julie along with Ann Preisig and Meaghan Homes nailed down the top women team honors. Mary, Jennifer Haskell of Freetown, MA and Pauline Entin of Dartmouth brought home the second place team title; while Jen Almeida, along with Tarley and Kirsten Sumner were third place ladies team for the Acushnet Valley Striders.
