The Acushnet Public Library welcomes author Cara Robertson on Tues., 8/6, at 6:30 pm to discuss her new book The Trial of Lizzie Borden: a true story.
Lawyer and legal scholar Cara Robertson brings new life to this country’s oldest true-crime saga. This book began as Robertson’s senior thesis as a student at Harvard in 1990, and is based on over twenty years of research, including analysis of trial transcripts, newspaper articles, unpublished local reports, and recently unearthed letters from Lizzie herself. With this definitive account of the country’s first “trial of the century,” Robertson shows how the Borden murders offer a window onto America’s Gilded Age, and how this perennially beguiling case continues to influence our understanding and interpretation of American crime stories today.
Cara Robertson holds a PhD in English from Oxford University and a JD from Stanford Law School. She has clerked at the Supreme Court of the United States, served as a legal adviser to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia at The Hague.
