Serve-A-Thon helps needy
Improving our effort to help fund and support the Salvation Army and Mobile Ministries in the Greater New Bedford area is our goal for 2019. These two groups work tirelessly and heroically to serve the needy and homeless in our region. For the past four years, we’ve conducted a yearly Serve-A-Thon that has generated over $132,000. Interestingly, there have been no overhead costs, with all monies raised going directly to the two ministries.
A brief review of past Serve-A-Thons highlights the following: 1.) A number of individuals and businesses sponsored people to serve at locations in the Greater New Bedford area. 2.) A veteran park and an historic site were beautified in Fairhaven. 3.) A senior center recreation hall, a long park fence, and library areas have been freshly painted as the Mayor’s Projects in New Bedford. 4.) Clothes and toys were sorted at Gifts to Give in Acushnet. 5.) Crops were harvested at the YMCA farm in Dartmouth. 6.) The grounds of the Salvation Army and Andre McCoy Athletic Complex were cleaned and renewed in New Bedford.
This year’s 5th Annual Serve-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2019. A public information meeting and cookout will be held at the Salvation Army facility at 619 Purchase Street on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 6:00 p.m
You are welcome to attend to understand exactly how our Serve-A-Thon works, to learn about our exciting projects slated for this year, and to join and serve on a special team bringing help and hope to our community.
