Police have not provided a cause for a car accident on Sconticut Neck Road this week. Police spokesperson Lt. Kevin Kobza said the police report was not finished and the officer who responded to the scene was out for two days, so no details on the investigation were available by press time. On Monday, 6/24/19, at around 2 p.m., the call went into the police station for a head-on collision near 555 Sconticut Neck Road, with one vehicle in the woods. A red Nissan Altima driven by Fairhaven resident Jack Burr, 17, was traveling northbound when it crossed the line and hit a 2016 white Kia Soul driven by Judy Grabau, 81, also of Fairhaven.
oth operators were taken to area hospitals, and both vehicles had to be towed. The reason for the accident was not available, but witnesses on scene said the operator of the Nissan seemed to go too far to the right, then overcompensated at the bend and crossed into the left lane. Ms. Grabau was transported to a Rhode Island hospital and admitted with serious injuries, but was released a few days later. Mr. Burr’s injuries were not serious. Both drivers are expected to recover.
