From Editor Beth David
Well, this one is hard. We have an obituary in this week’s issue. It’s my sister Chris’s.
She was only 64 years old when cancer took her from this earth.
Or, as my youngest nephew said, “The angels got her.”
She went back to our childhood home, where my mother and my sibs and I took care of her in the end. It was so quick, and so long at the same time.
She was the oldest, and had many words of wisdom to impart to the rest of us, but they all revolved around one big point: Do the things you want to do now, don’t put them off.
“There were things I still wanted to do,” she said more than once. “I had plans.”
Take the lesson, My Faithful Readers. Don’t wait too long to do the things you want to do. Make the mark on the world you wanted to make, sit in the sun more, or read in a corner more, or drink more (yup, I said that), or exercise more (if you must), but definitely laugh more and try to let it go. I admit, I’m not very good at that at the present moment. But, this too shall pass.
The sun is coming out, it’s motorcycle season, boat season is almost here, and beach days are not far away.
Chris loved the summer, the warm weather, the beach, and the sun wherever she could find it.
I was going to pull some verse from a song or poem or psalm or other profound place.
But, instead, I’m going to let you find your own words. We all probably know someone who is on chemo or radiation right now, or was in treatment and is not sure if it worked or not.
Spend time with that person. Sit for a bit. Give that person a piece of normalcy. But…don’t overstay your welcome, either. The minutes are precious.
Until next week then…see ya,
