Everyone should be responsible
Spring is right around the corner and I would hope that people have a little pride about the condition of their properties, the environment in general.
On March 11th, I decided to take a walk to enjoy the bright sunshine and the wonderful area in which I call home. This is what I observed about the Sconticut Road area:
About a month ago, Verizon delivered their “New Bedford Yellow Pages” to Fairhaven.The books where in clear plastic bags and dropped at the base of everybody’s mail boxes. Well, many of them are still there because the residents are either away, or did not care to pick theirs up and take them into their house. I know that Verizon is not allowed to put them in the mail box or newspaper box. I would ask Verizon to modify the delivery method to have the books at a central location(s) in order for those who are interested in having one could pick it up. This would stop having the books becoming trash fodder in the first place.
I took a drive up and down “the Neck,” to notate other problems. I am using street numbers (not names) as examples, and this list is NOT all inclusive.
422 SNR: The property should either be fixed up or torn down. Rusted trucks litter the property and appliances rust on the door step.
171 SNR: Please remove the junk from the front porch, and the trash that litters your land.
In the 100 section of SNR, get rid of the boats and cars littering the yard.
The town of Fairhaven is guilty too. The Safety Annex on the Neck is in deplorable condition. If this were in the center of town, the residents would complain.
On the corner of SNR and Winsegansett, the business that operates there is nothing more than a permanent yard sale. Clear it out and clean it up!
770SNR: Your car repair business is nothing more than a grave yard for cars that will never be repaired. Flat tires and water levels to the door of these vehicles indicate that they will never be more than oil leaking rust buckets. Get rid of the eye sores.
As an aside here, residents bring your trash barrels back onto your property once they have been emptied of their contents. When I was on my walk, I noticed three barrels on their sides at 732 SNR. I moved one of the barrels from the middle of the driveway entrance. I left the other two were they were. On my way back, the barrel that I moved was moved back onto the property, and the other two were still on the road. In my book, that personifies LAZY. This resident RARELY takes their barrels back onto their land.
Lastly, I was walking down Cushman Street. On my right is Webster Pond. In the brush that abuts the pond I counted no less than 72 empty beer cans, most of which were one liter cans of Natural Light beer. It is disgusting. That pond is home to many swans, ducks, geese, fox, some deer, and many other types of animals. I swear by everything that is holy if I find out what beer swilling slob is contaminating this not-so-pristine area with trash, I will be more than happy to report him/her to the police and have them arrested for not only littering, but for DUI as well. What is it? Are you afraid to bring the cans home in case your spouse will see them?
Use common sense! Have some pride! We are all in this together. We have ONE earth, let’s take care of it and keep it clean.
