The dedication of his volunteers is “unexplainable,” and their growth is “immense,” wrote Fairhaven Animal Control Officer Terry Cripps in a letter to Fairhaven High School Principal Andrew Kulak back in November. He was writing about Erin Fletcher and Daniel Perry, who needed a way to get some real world experience.
“We have seen the immense growth in Danny and Erin not only in their interaction with the animals but also with their interaction with the public,” wrote Mr. Cripps “They also take the initiative when they come to the shelter and get started on the dishes and mopping without any direction. We appreciate everything they have done for us in the last year and a half and we would always be open if you would ever like to expand the program.”
Because of their exceptional dedication, Mr. Cripps, the Fairhaven Police Department, and the school conspired to surprise the two with certificates of appreciation, and presented them on December 3, 2018, with the police chief and other members of law enforcement, and school officials present.
The students perform duties that any other part time employee would help with, including keeping the shelter clean, interacting with the public and socializing the animals.
