Santa will be very busy in our neck of the woods this weekends, and next weekend, too. First up is this Friday, 11/30, when he will be at Benoit Square during the annual lighting and sing-along. He will also be in Acushnet on Sunday for the annual lighting and sing-along at the fire station. Next weekend, he will make appearances in Fairhaven at the Old-Time Holiday celebration (see ad on page 19).
And, starting on Saturday, 12/1, he will be in New Bedford at a lot of different events in neighborhoods all around the city (see page 22).
Here are some details on events to give you some Christmas spirit if you need it, or to keep your levels up if you already have it.
Benoit Square Lighting and Sing-Along
Join us on Fri., 11/30, 6:30 p.m., for a Sing-Along and visit with Santa at Benoit Square, in North Fairhaven, corner of Howland Ave. and Main St., where Main and Adams merge. Voices in Time will lead us for the singing, and Santa is going to join us for visits and photos. Treats for the children. FREE. Sponsored by the North Fairhaven Improvement Association
Acushnet Lighting and Sing-Along
The Acushnet Firefighters Association will be hosting its annual Christmas display lighting and sing-a-long on Sunday, 12/2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Acushnet Fire Station, 22 Russell Street. The Ford Middle School Chorus will lead us in singing Christmas carols. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served and Santa will be arriving on a fire truck. FREE. We are again this year be collecting Toys for Tots and ask for your generosity.
City Hall Tree Lighting/New Bedford
The City of New Bedford will hold its Official Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, 12/1, at 4:30 p.m. at Pleasant Street in Front of Main Library Downtown. Join Mayor Jon Mitchell, New Bedford City Councilors and the New Bedford community for the annual tree lighting celebration! At 4:30 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will lead a parade up William Street to the Main Library. The parade will feature the award-winning New Bedford High School Whaler Marching Band and the All-City Middle School Marching Band and Color Guard. The countdown celebration will feature holiday songs, greetings from local elected officials and an appearance by Santa Claus! New Bedford Community Services Department will serve complimentary hot chocolate.
