Socialism, or government’s role?
In response to John Pond’s letter of Oct. 18, I can only say that he seems to have a grave misunderstanding of the role of government and whom it is for. He says that he is afraid of “socialism” being forced on our country by Democrats and that the Republicans will save us from that. Really?
From what I can see, President Trump has been trying for the past two years to force his brand of government on a population that clearly rejected him at the polls in 2016, and the Republican party is his shameless facilitator.
I would suggest that if Mr. Pond is really so afraid of socialism he discontinue using public roads, sidewalks, and parks. He needn’t put his trash out on the curb either, lest the “socialist” government collect it. He probably should turn away the Fire Department if his house ever catches fire, and not rely on the Police if he ever finds himself in a jam. Most importantly, if he really hates socialism he must return his Social Security checks, unenroll himself from Medicare, and stop paying taxes.
