Join us for 100 year anniversary ending of WWI
Most folks hopefully remember from history lessons the significance of 11, 11, 11.
It was the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month that Germany surrendered and World War One ended.
One hundred years ago, November 11th, 1918.
There are memorial ceremonies planned in many countries on this 100th anniversary and the Town of Fairhaven will also be participating.
The North Fairhaven Improvement Association is sponsoring a memorial to PFC Ernest J. Benoit, the first Fairhaven soldier killed one hundred years ago in WWI, and tributes to Lance Corporal Patrick J. Gallagher, killed in Iraq in 2006, and Lance Corporal Matthew R. Rodriguez killed in Afghanistan in 2013.
The Fairhaven ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20th at Benoit Square in North Fairhaven.
N.F.I.A. has distributed fliers regarding the event and we hope that as many folks as possible will join us in saluting these soldiers.
While our country seems so seriously divided politically right now, it’s refreshing to know that there still is no disputing the gratitude we all have for our military men and women. Please be part of this ceremony. Gold Star families are especially welcome.
If there are any questions please call me, 508-965-6072. Lawn chairs are suggested.
