So, who’s popcorn worthy this week? Board of Health!
Big time.
You’d better make a double batch.
Honestly, I don’t know where to begin, but I do believe that you should take the time to watch it, if not on TV, then online (at FairhavenTV.com). It’s a long meeting, but it goes fast, never a dull moment, trust me. I wrote a waaaay longer article than I usually do, but I just couldn’t resist (see page 3), because I know most of you will not watch it.
The meeting started, right out of the chute, with sniping and hostility and body language that screamed louder than the words.
Clearly, there are issues here.
I think they need mediation, or a shrink or something.
Taking sides is futile when the toxicity is that intense, but I must say I had to chuckle at the dueling accusations of conflicts of interest and ethics violations.
One member works for the health agent’s sister, but doesn’t see the conflict in that. The other member has been accused publicly of tipping off his friends to when the health agent is coming to inspect restaurants, and he’s whining because he doesn’t know where the health agent is every single second of the day. Gee… any idea why?
Throw in the age-old rivalry between the Board of Health and….and…everybody, and it gets even more fun.
Might be time for the whole board to resign. Two of the members have been on it forever. The other one was a Selectboard member for…forever, too. Maybe it’s time to get new blood, so poor Mary can do her job and poor Amanda doesn’t have to feel like she’s in the middle of a fight between mommy and daddy. Honestly, she should get combat pay.
In short: Grow the hell up, people. Treat each other with respect. Peter, stop cutting off Jeannine and ignoring her; your track record with how you treat women in that department is abysmal. Jeannine, let Mary fight some of her own battles, you’re not her mommy. Mike, grow a spine for heaven’s sake. You can’t play the middle all the time.
And, all of you: Find that personnel file. It is NOT okay that it is gone. And if it turns out that a board member took it, then that needs to be made public. These are elected positions, My Faithful Readers. These are your public officials, and the decisions they make affect everyone. They should not be playing favorites just because they know people. These decisions have repercussions.
They all need to stop acting like babies. A sense of humor probably wouldn’t kill any of them, either. Then again…hmm
Until next week then…see ya,
