If you enjoy the arts and are interested in serving your community, the Fairhaven Cultural Council is seeking new members. Prospective members who are residents of Fairhaven are invited to attend the council’s next meeting on Tuesday, June 26, at 6 p.m. in the East Room on the second floor of the Town Hall.
Council members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen and oversee the awarding and distribution of grant monies from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and local funds for projects in the arts and humanities that directly benefit Fairhaven residents. The council meets for only three to four formal voting meetings throughout the year, and on an as-needed basis for other council business.

Planning Board
The Fairhaven Planning Board currently has a vacancy following the recent resignation of one of the eight members. This elected position will be on the ballot in 2019, but in the interim, the Planning Board and Board of Selectmen must appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the next election. This appointment would end in 2019, when the person holding the office would have to run to finish out the full remainder of the term, which ends in 2021.
The PB is responsible for the review of development applications for subdivisions and special permits, as well as long-range planning for the Town, including the recently completed Master Plan, Zoning Bylaw amendments, and recommendations on housing. The Board also sends representatives to other town committees.
Anyone interested in serving on the PB should submit a letter of interest to the Town Clerk by June 22, Eileen@fairhaven-ma.gov, or 40 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719. •••
