The flag raising that was to be held at Fort Phoenix on Memorial Day was rained out but not cancelled, only postponed.
The Boy Scouts will raise the flag at 8 a.m. on Sunday, 6/5, at Fort Phoenix, near the cannons, in honor of five Fairhaven residents.
The public is invited to attend to remember Alice Torres, Evelyn Martin, “Hawk” Medeiros, “Red” Medeiros and Angelo Puente. North Fairhaven Improvement Association members sponsor the event and are inviting family and friends to join them at the fort for this ceremony.
Also, on that day, at 9 a.m. the NFIA will go to the high school to raise the big flag to commemorate senior graduation, which will be held later in the afternoon.
At 5 p.m., the NFIA will return to Ft. Phoenix to lower the flag, hold a brief ceremony, including the playing of taps. Then they will return to the high school to lower the big flag.
The public is invited to all events. Contact John Medeiros, 508-990-000, or Ted Silva, 508-965-6072 for details.
