Let the outdoor activities commence!
A little bit of rain did not stop the hardy souls who ran the West Island 5K on Sunday. This weekend, the fair-weather-only crowd will have lots to do. The rain is supposed to hold off for the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Blessing of the Bikes (see page 5 for those), and of course, Town Meeting. The all day, in door meeting is almost always on the sunniest of sunny days. Alas, that is where I will be. I love Town Meeting, I really do, but…oh, it’s going to be hard to be inside.
Town Meeting in Fairhaven is facing a biggie this year, the reclassification of all the town’s non-union jobs. See page 3 for that. I look forward to your letters. This is also our annual salaries issue (see page 18). Your tax dollars at work.
On page 12 you’ll find a short, very short, piece about the Zoning Board of Appeals having no quorum AGAIN. Really, people, if you can’t show up to the meetings you should just resign. It is not fair to the petitioners who take time out of their lives, whose projects are hanging in the balance, and who may be paying a lot of money to engineers and attorneys. That board meets once a month. ONCE! You can’t make 12 meetings a year? Get outta there.
It’s time for quahogging! See page 10 for info on which coves are open and which ones are not. Bella Vista owner is, of course, not helping any. He has not been dredging under his causeway, but, I suspect he likes that the water is just polluted enough to keep us away from his precious place.
We have lots of fun stuff this week, too: Senior Talent Show on page 17, a wicked-cool doggie rescue on page 23, Bike path clean up (page 8), interesting looking boat I spotted on my way to somewhere else, and…a bunch of stuff.
On your way through the pages, please note who our advertisers are and be sure to tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News. Until next week then…see ya,
