Theater students deserve shout-out, too
As a retired educator with 31 years of teaching America’s youth, half of which were at the high school level, I would like to give a shout out to a group of students that I feel are, and have been, overlooked.
We tend to marvel at the prowess of our school athletes, which is warranted. They spend many hours training and perfecting their skills after which they are lauded for their achievements.
I point out that my last sentence also describes another group of students who are devoted to their craft…that of the theater.
High school plays and musicals require the same kind of discipline of the theater students as that of the athletes.
I particularly applaud the students of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School as they prepare for their spring musical “Grease”.
For any production to be a success, the performers must be passionate about their craft and talent. These young people spend hours in rehearsals not unlike any Broadway production.
Having seen the last three musicals at the vocational school, I know this year’s musical will not disappoint anyone who attends. You will find yourself marveling at the fact that those actors are teenagers who love what they are doing.
I urge you to attend this production of “Grease” which will run from May 3-6, I assure you that you will stand and applaud a deserving group of young people.
