Residents of Fairhaven, especially those living near the Unitarian Memorial Church on Green Street, have been hearing strange, raucous ‘Ronnnkkk’ sounds from slightly menacing large black birds.
At least one pair of ravens, far from their usual Appalachian mountain haunts, have been visiting for several weeks. Now, however, one pair has made it definite: they are staying and have chosen the south face of the (appropriately) English gothic bell tower of the church to build a nest.
Are we to be blessed, as the Tower of London, with a conspiracy of protective ravens? As Poe might have said, “…quoth the raven, Evermore”?
