April is National Poetry Month, and the Friends of the Millicent Library are celebrating with a limerick contest. You don’t have to be a poet or a Fairhaven resident to enter. If you can follow basic limerick rules, which you’ll find on the back of the entry form, you’re welcome to enter as often as you like.
Entries will be judged in age categories, with special categories for limericks based on current events and those about Fairhaven. The judges (who will not know the identities of the poets) are Janice Randall, Maggi Peirce, and Chris Richard. Children and young adults are especially encouraged to enter.
Entry forms are available at the Millicent Library, the Rec Center, the Senior Center, on the library website (www.millicentlibrary.org), or by email at friendsofmillicentlibrary@ gmail.org. Deadline is March 29.
Prizes will be awarded at a party on April 14, 1 p.m., featuring music by ukulele artist Cal Wingate. Winners will read their limericks, and you’re welcome to attend even if your muse didn’t inspire you to enter.
