In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Chris Daley, local historian, author and lecturer, will present “No Irish Need Apply,” a 90 minute slide lecture which examines the many facets of the early Irish experience in Boston.
The presentation begins in 1718 with the first arrival of Scottish-Irish immigrants, Pope’s Day, the burning of the Ursuline Convent in 1834 in Charlestown, the Broad Street Riot in 1837 and the “Great Potato Famine,”
Discussion will also include Irish political leaders including Patrick Collins, Hugh O’Brien, Martin Lomasney, Patrick Kennedy and the “old Rascal King James Michael Curley.”
