The North Fairhaven Improvement Association held its annual lighting of Benoit Square on Friday, 12/1, with people filling the square and youngsters anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus, hoping to get a moment with the Big Guy to whisper their wishes into his ear. Mrs. Claus and a few elves, including Fairhaven’s own elf, “Buddy,” were also on hand to help hand out coloring books, crayons, and candy canes.
Showstoppers led the singing this year, which made for decidedly more professional renditions of all the Christmas favorites.
Then Santa himself rolled in on an antique fire truck, greeted his wife and the children, then headed inside to give children a chance to speak to him themselves.
Free hot chocolate and cookies rounded out the festive event.
The square will be lit up every night until New Year’s.
Santa is expected back in Fairhaven this weekend during several events connected with the Old Time Holiday weekend, including the sing-along on Saturday, 12/9. For more information on this weekend’s events (ad on back cover), visit www. fairhaventours.com.
