The remainder of Jack’s Cove will be open to quahogging as of Thursday, 9/21. The area by the marina has been closed, although the rest of the cove has been open. The section by the marina was transplanted with tainted quahogs from the Taunton River last year. The bivalves have had enough time to clean themselves out and have been tested by the state. The tests show they are safe for harvesting.
This section of Jack’s Cove will only be open to recreational diggers, as the money used to seed it was from Bouchard Oil Spill settlement money designated for recreational use. For more information, call the Harbormaster/Shelfish office, 508-984-4529, Ext. 124.
