Being Ordinary
Dear Frankie,
I can’t think of a friend who doesn’t excel at something.
Gisele, an Irish Setter, is absolutely gorgeous; Trix, a greyhound, wins every race, and Skipper, a border collie, is a gold-winning agility champ.
As a Corgi, I’m no sea slug when it comes to running; I’m also not bad-looking, and I do have some mean agility moves, but I’m never the star. No matter how hard I try, I never make it to the winner’s circle.
Being ordinary is so discouraging.
Andy
Dear Andy,
You are comparing yourself to breeds known for their physical attributes, which, of course, puts you at a great disadvantage.
As for looks, most of us do our best with what we have by staying well-groomed and in good shape.
Corgis excel as herders and watchdogs, and are friendly, loyal, and affectionate.
Think what you bring to your family: a safe home and a loving, devoted companion. These qualities last a lifetime, unlike good looks and physical strength and ability.
Best, Frankie
