I’m State Representative Mark Sylvia and I’m running for re-election.
Two years ago, I made a commitment to the 10th Bristol district: to hit the ground running on day one, to show up, to listen, and to deliver results. I meant it, and I’ve been true to my word.
In my first term as our State Representative, I’ve fought hard for our communities. We brought home over $1.345 Million in direct funding for food security, for the Whitfield Manjiro House, for a new kitchen at the Fairhaven COA, AEDs for Mattapoisett, new bleachers and safety equipment at ORRHS. And I am proud to have secured $1 million for the Acushnet Slocum Street project. That’s real money working for people.
With my local House colleagues, I supported Senator Montigny’s efforts to provide funding for Station 9 in New Bedford. I’ve fought for $3 million in future bond authorizations for projects in our district including improving wastewater systems, combating invasive species and supporting economic development. And I stood with the residents of Ward 1 against expansion of a waste related facility at the industrial park.
I’ve attended over 500 community events including at town meetings and ribbon cuttings, at senior centers and seafood festivals, at labor and farming events. I listened to cranberry growers and fishermen concerns, small business owners struggling with rising costs, and families trying to make ends meet.
Eight bills I filed have become law, including legislation that supports our municipalities. I’ve supported legislation focused on bringing costs down, helping our towns, protecting workers’ rights, and strengthening healthcare access. I’ve testified for veterans’ benefits and municipal employees. I’ve worked with colleagues, municipal leaders, and state agencies to address the challenges facing our district directly. I cut through red tape to help residents and small businesses navigate a state system that can feel overwhelming.
I’ve been transparent in my voting record, because you deserve to know exactly where I stand. I held office hours in our district, every month. I showed up for our veterans, our seniors, our families, our farmers, and our workers. I supported the Winter Recovery Assistance Program. And I’ve stood with labor in pushing for better wages and workplace protections.
There is a lot more to be done — from bringing costs down for residents, to expanding housing opportu-nities, to reforming our utility system and fighting for better healthcare access. It also means working to strengthen our local communities, by championing state aid for education and municipal services, to expanding small business opportunities and investing in our local fishing, agriculture and tourism industries.
I’ve been fighting for you, I’ve delivered results, and I’m just getting started.
I’m running for re-election because our best days are ahead of us, and I want to keep fighting to make them happen. We’ve built something here: momentum, trust, and a proven track record of results. And there’s so much more we can accomplish together.
