After multiple sightings of the actor’s cardboard cut-out around New Bedford, The Zeiterion reeled in the real Bill Murray for a surprise appearance on Monday, August 3. Murray answered audience questions following a screening of What About Bob?, which was the first of five films in the Bill Murray Movie Monday Marathon.
The series continues with Caddyshack on August 10, Ghostbusters on August 17, Stripes on August 24, and Groundhog Day on August 31, which has many wondering if the comedy legend will return to The Z for another film this month. Tickets are $12 per movie and can be purchased at zeiterion.org, in person at the box office, or by phone at 508-994-2900.
Murray addressed the audience from the historic Zeiterion stage at the conclusion of “What About Bob?” He encouraged questions and shared behind-the-scenes stories.
The audience erupted with laughter after Murray said, “This is really nice. I can’t believe there’s this many people…when I was told there was so many people here I almost turned around and went home.”
“I’m so happy that people are going to movies again,” continued Murray. “It’s really important to see movies together in the theater and I think you should keep coming.”
As one of summer’s most legendary travelers through New Bedford, Murray has become something of a local folk hero — popping into restaurants, surprising locals, and posing for photos around town. The Z honors Murray’s devotion to the area with a marathon of five of his most popular films. .
