The Fairhaven Select Board presented a proclamation to Fire Department Lt. Brian Riggs on 7/13/26.
Lt. Riggs is retiring this month after 30 years with the town.
Lt. Riggs also served as a Captain in the US Army Reserve, completing an 18-month deployment to Iraq from 2006 to 2008 as a Registered Nurse assigned to a Combat Support Hospital, “demonstrating extraordinary dedication to both his nation and his community,” reads the proclamation.
Lt. Riggs also played a pivotal role in the department’s upgrade to Paramedic level pre-hospital EMS service in 2000.
“Throughout his distinguished career, Lieutenant Riggs exemplified professionalism, leadership, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to public service, leaving a lasting impact on the Fairhaven Fire Department, his fellow firefighters, and the citizens he proudly served,” reads the proclamation.
Fire Chief Todd Correia told the board that Lt. Riggs “set the gold standard for patient care in Fairhaven,” making the town “second to none.”
Chief Correia also said that Lt. Riggs has been a mentor and a friend and served the town with great pride.
Lt. Riggs said he wanted to thank everybody, and thank the town.
“It’s a great town,” he said, with a great fire department.
He said they have made strides over the years with the ambulance service.
He noted that he was the young guy, and “now I’m the old man at work.”
The department is in great hands as he leaves, he said.
“There’s a great group of people coming up,” said Lt. Riggs.
