Acushnet Public Library, 232 Middle Road, Thurs., 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Fri., 1–5 p.m.

FAIRHAVEN
A heat wave is expected to bring recor-breaking temperatures and oppressive humidity this week.
The Fairhaven Council on Aging, 229 Huttleston Avenue, Fairhaven (508-979-4029), is a designated cooling center for the town of Fairhaven. If you need a safe, air-conditioned place to escape the heat, we welcome you during the following hours: Thurs., 7/2, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Fri., 7/3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (The center will be closed for regular programming on Friday but will remain open as a Cooling Center.)
Cold water, movies, free wi-fi will be available throughout the day.
Please stay hydrated. Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day. Check on friends, family, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
NEW BEDFORD
In response to the extreme weather, the City of New Bedford will continue its practice of designating public libraries as cooling centers. All library locations have air conditioning and staff on hand to assist residents. Operating hours for City libraries during the NWS Heat Watch are:
Main library, 613 Pleasant St. – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Casa da Saudade, 58 Crapo St. – 12-8 p.m. Thursday, closed Friday
Howland-Green, 3 Rodney French Blvd. – 12-8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Wilks – 1119 Acushnet Ave. – 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
All City libraries are closed Saturday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.
In anticipation of large crowds at municipal beaches, the City has extended lifeguard coverage at East and West Beach. Lifeguards will be on duty until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Residents are reminded that several City parks have splash pads that offer a break from the heat for children. Splash pads are located at the following parks:
Riverside Park, Brooklawn Park, Ashley Park., Clasky Common, Beauregard-Pina, Harrington Park, Magnet Park, Ben Rose, Montes Park
Seniors are welcome to stop by the Buttonwood Park Senior Center, which is open Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is air conditioned and features different programs and special events.
