Roundtable Will Discuss “The Montana Plan”
Those who are concerned about the exorbitant amounts of money being spent in our elections, please join the Unitarian Universalist Society of Fairhaven (UUSF) on Wednesday evening May 13th at 7:00 P.M. for a Zoom presentation of a special informational roundtable discussion about how the Montana-based Transparent Election Initiative can challenge corporate political power and bring us one step closer to reclaiming our Democracy by controlling corporate money.
Produced by national organization Move To Amend (MTA), author of and strong advocate for the We the People Amendment (HJR-54) in Congress, this discussion centers around a new initiative by states, one of which is Montana, to regulate the use of money in our elections. MTA has been fighting to overcome the effects of the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision which has opened the floodgates for the use of money in our elections through the difficult task of amending the U.S. Constitution. The Montana Plan is an attempt to control the use of corporate money in our elections via state chartering power.
The program will be held in the Tudor style Harrop Center building, located behind UUSF’s Unitarian Memorial Church’s main building at 102 Green Street in Fairhaven. Light refreshments will be provided. Please plan to join us for a viewing of this important topic as we continue to explore what actions we can take to help save our Democracy.
