Nearly 200 runners and walkers took to the streets on West Island for the 13th annual West Island 5K and Kids Fun Run. The 5K had 156 runners, and the Kids Mile had 41.
The fun, family-friendly event also drew lots of spectators. Prizes were awarded in categories by age and gender.
First place went to Alex Tripoli of Fall River, who crossed the line in 17:29; second was David Louria of Bristol, RI, in 18:16; 3rd was Damro Pao of Fall River, in 19:47.
For the women, Fairhaven’s own Maggie Carol crossed over first in 20:20: Sara Poulin of Marion, came in second in 21:04; Genesis Goss of Fall River, made third in 22:15.
For the young’uns, the top three boys were Saleh El-Kerdi of Dracut in 6:09; Denver Shimala of Fairhaven, in 6:19; and third place went to Jaxon DaSilva of Fairhaven in 7:58.
For the girls, it was Virginia Gonsalves of Fairhaven in first at 7:37; Bella Landers of New Bedford was second in 8:36; and third place was Mirabella Gonsalves of Fairhaven in 8:38.
Prizes included cash and gift certificates. Giveaways included a beach towel and t-shirts for runners, which were also for sale.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Fairhaven High School Cross Country program, West Island Improvement Association scholarship fund, and Strive and Achieve.
